The palace of rias
In the naval district called “Quaa essor” (bottom of the rampart), a battery (Topanet) was built by Mami Arnaouat in 1576, on the orders of Ramadan Pasha in order to strengthen the defense system and protect the northwestern part of the city of Algiers from any foreign invasion.

The Palais des Raïs, also called Bastion 23, is a set of three palaces, as well as six fishermen’s houses, all dating from the Ottoman era. The Palais des Raïs is one of the most important historical monuments of the city of Algiers.
